For nearly 25 years Audiology director Paul Whitcomb has been working in hearing.
The 47-year-old Hockley resident graduated with a BSc in Management Sciences from the University of Loughborough and began working in the city as a FTSE 100 options market maker. In the early 2000’s Paul decided to have a career change when a family member noticed an advertisement looking for people interested in training as an audiologist.
The opportunity to help people
Paul said: ‘I really liked the idea of mixing my experience in customer services and working with the public with the opportunity to help people.’
The now audiology director for many of the stores across Essex trained in 2004 Paul before working as an audiologist in the UK and later in Hervey Bay in Queensland, Australia. He joined Specsavers after 10 years of working in the industry and took over the store in Southend.
Paul has expanded the services of the stand-alone Hearing Centre in Southend to include a team of nine working across Specsavers branches including, Rayleigh, Chingford, Maldon, Billericay, Brentwood, Braintree and Chingford.
A rewarding career
Paul continued: ‘I find it really rewarding, knowing that the work you do can make such a huge difference to a person’s life.’
Paul enjoys travelling with his wife Terri and their two daughters Holly, 11 and Abigail, 8. They are looking forward to hopefully travelling to America.
