Specsavers Swadlincote has launched an appeal for unwanted specs to help raise money for optical charity, Vision Aid Overseas (VAO).
Donations of spectacles can be dropped off at the store where they will be sent to VAO to be recycled. The money generated supports the charity’s ongoing work to provide eye care to people in deprived areas of Africa.
A word from the store director
‘We’d like to encourage the local community to dig out their unwanted specs so that they can be donated to this life-changing charity’, said store director, Rajesh Patel. ‘Eye care is something we take for granted in this country, but for many people all over the world, it’s simply something that isn’t available. We’re keen to do whatever we can to help, and collecting unwanted specs is a great way to show our support.’
VAO is dedicated to fighting poverty by transforming access to eye care in developing countries and raises money by selling the materials recycled from old glasses. The process is environmentally friendly and enables the charity to fund its overseas projects.
