Specs donation at County Durham opticians

Specsavers in Bishop Auckland and Newton Aycliffe collected specs for charity, Vision Aid Overseas

County Durham opticians have donated more than 1800 pairs of used and unwanted glasses to charity Vision Aid Overseas in its 30th anniversary year.

The teams from Specsavers in Bishop Auckland and Newton Aycliffe encouraged the community to donate their old and unwanted glasses to the sight charity.

Vision Aid Overseas works in six African nations to establish vision centres, train healthcare workers and utilise the expertise of volunteers to give people desperately-needed eye examinations and treatment.

Tim Mitchison, store director of Specsavers in Bishop Auckland and Newton Aycliffe, said: ‘Why not pop into store and put your old specs to good use by donating them to Vision Aid Overseas?’
