Specsavers in Newark has raised £100 for Guide Dogs after Harry the Guide Dog and his owner, Gillian Bignell, visited the store as part of Guide Dogs Week (4-12 October).

Staff supported the event by dressing in bright neon colours, featuring the yellow of the iconic Guide Dogs harness. The team also ran a children’s colouring competition where they could win a gift voucher for Toymaster, Newark.

Sarbjeet Soar, store director of Specsavers Newark, said: ‘I’m so pleased we were able to raise money for a great cause. Guide Dogs are always a real pleasure to invite into the store. We hope that Harry’s visit will help raise awareness of the Guide Dogs’ cause and will highlight how important it is for blind and partially sighted people to enjoy freedom of movement and independence.’

All of the money raised will go to Guide Dogs who help more partially sighted and blind people get out and about on their own terms. The charity also campaigns for the rights of people with visual impairment, educates the public about eyecare and funds eye disease research. See www.guidedogs.org.uk.
