Children in Southport face safer winter
As winter truly sets in, Specsavers opticians in Southport have pledged to help keep local school children safe by donating high visibility vests to two primary schools in the town.
Children from Churchtown Primary School on St. Cuthbert's Road and Larkfield Primary School on Preston New Road, were presented with 300 vests by Vicky Houghton, store manager at Specsavers in Southport.
As dark mornings and nights combine with the worsening wintry weather, it can become increasingly difficult for motorists to spot pedestrians, especially children.
Vicky explained: ‘At this time of year, it is particularly important to reduce the hazards for local children when out and about. We wanted to help with the safety of local children, and donating the high visibility jackets is a great way to do this.
‘While many of us are now thinking about Christmas and gift buying, we’d also like to use this time of year to raise awareness of the importance of regular eye examinations for under 16-year-olds, and the free glasses and eye tests that are available to them.’
