Fundraising for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) continues apace at a Specsavers Burnham-on-Sea which organised a special guest to attend its kids’ day on Tuesday 15 August.

Sooty the mascot

Visitors to the store were greeted by a life-sized Sooty, a long-standing mascot for the RNIB, who entertained younger customers. Sooty colouring templates were also available in store for children to test their creative skills in a competition. The store asked for a 50p donation to take part.

There were prizes for three age categories; five years and under will receive a cuddly bear and sweets, while winners in the six to eight years and nine and upwards categories will each receive a Splattoid, fidget spinner and sweets. A tombola was also on offer for £1 a go and prizes for this and the colouring competition have been donated by local businesses.

The team has been fundraising for the RNIB for the past few months in the lead up to store director Rama Venkat’s head shave on Thursday 21 September.

Colouring competition

‘It’s been a great day and we’ve really appreciated everyone that’s come down to the store, joined in the fun and helped us raise money for the RNIB,’ said Rama. ‘The Sooty suit went down particularly well with our younger customers and we’re also looking forward to picking the winners of the colouring competition, all the entries have been really creative! Thank you to everyone that supported us.’

If you would like to sponsor Rama, you can visit his fundraising page or pop into the store.
