Specsavers Guernsey Spectacle Wearer of the Year
The Specsavers Guernsey Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition was split into age categories and the 45-59 winner, Steven Purtill was delighted with his prize, although he admits he had been reluctant to enter.
‘I was coerced into it by dispensing optician and director Chris Goldsbrough who jokingly said he would refuse to sort my specs out unless I entered. I thought that would be the end of it but, blow me, I got a phone call to say I’d won my category.’ Steven explains
‘It was a bit of fun but also to support a very worthwhile cause.’
A great success
The Market Square Specsavers team and YES organised the competition to find people who look good wearing their glasses but also to raise money for the Guernsey Blind Association (GBA).
Optometrist director Sarah Burchett was thrilled that they were able to donate to such a worthy cause stating ‘Altogether, there were 317 entrants raising £1 per entry and the store added an extra £500 donation so that the final amount was a fantastic £817!’
Those presenting the awards were Specsavers director, Dominic Burchett, Hearcare director Julie Chammings, GBA vision support advisor Debbie Clarke and Dave Le Tissier from YES. Debbie Clarke and GBA President Sandra Ayres were presented with a cheque for the money raised on the day.
The other category winners were 16-29: Ashleigh Gibson, 30-44: Kate Corbett and 60+: Nadine Caton. Each winner was presented with a trophy, a £100 voucher to spend on optical products and a winner’s goody bag.
