Small screen success for local
A piper from Fife has landed a starring role in the latest quirky Specsavers advert.
David Robertson, 51, features in a brand new 20-second video on demand advert on STV Player.
David – who lives in Auchtermuchty, Glenrothes – is a man of many trades and works as a tree consultant and conducts bat surveys for a living but also teaches the Army Cadets Pipe Band and tours the world as a piper.
He recently took part in the Malmö Tattoo in Sweden. Following appearances as an extra on comedy series Scot Squad and film The Railway Man, David filmed his scenes with STV and the Specsavers team in picturesque Glencoe against the backdrop of rugged mountain peaks.
TV super star
In the STV Player advert, David is seen playing a tune on the bagpipes as part of a piping trio. But the song goes wildly off key when he realises someone ‘should’ve gone to Specsavers’ when a fellow piper uses golf clubs instead of bagpipes.
As part of the same campaign, David will also appear in a sponsorship bumper on STV, highlighting Specsavers’ sponsorship of STV’s main channel. David said: ‘Being part of this quirky advert was great fun – you need to be able to laugh at yourself and not take life too seriously.
Exciting filming opportunity
‘The filming was very exciting. I’ve done a bit of TV extra work before but it was great to feature in the latest iconic ‘Should’ve gone to Specsavers’ ad.’
Specsavers Glenrothes store director, Stewart Wilson, said: ‘The new sponsorship bumpers are great fun and David is a real star in them.
‘We hope that they help to reinforce the importance of regular eye health check-ups every two years at your local Specsavers store.’
