Sight tests are the focus for retirement village residents
To coincide with Road Safety Week (21-27 November) staff from Bearwood Specsavers were invited to visit Hagley Road Retirement Village alongside Ladywood Fire Station as part of a drive to educate people on the importance of sight tests.
A word from the store manager
Store manager, Muhammed Ali explained: ‘Ladywood Fire Station invited us along to share our expertise with the residents, especially in relation to road safety.
‘I did some research and was shocked to learn that poor driver vision alone leads to 55 casualties every single week and costs an estimated £33 million.A regular eye examination is a legal requirement for drivers these days, but it is also your responsibility to ensure you are having your eyes tested frequently.
‘We encourage our customers to come in for a sight test every two years – not only does it check the health of your eyes, it also acts as an overall health check, which I think the residents were surprised to hear. Our friendly team are always on hand to chat about eye health or can book you in for an appointment to see one of the opticians, so hopefully we can catch up with the lovely residents in-store soon.’
