Sidcup opticians supports Road Safety Week
Sidcup eyecare experts went back to school to raise awareness of the links between visibility and road safety during Road Safety Week.
The team from Specsavers in Sidcup visited West Lodge School in Sidcup to teach years three and four pupils about eye health and distribute 50 high visibility jackets.
Pupils learned about everything from the anatomy of the eye to how to stay within the sights of drivers while crossing roads after dark.
A word from the store director
Ebahi Demi-Ejegi, store director at Specsavers in Sidcup, said: ‘Sight and visibility are key factors in safe road use. We hope that West Lodge pupils can help us set an example to other pedestrians by staying visible and safe over the winter months.’
A word from West Lodge School
David Hankin, of West Lodge School, added: ‘This was an excellent and really welcome presentation pointing out to the children that it isn’t just a case of them being seen by motorists and other road users but also how important it is that they can see them, too.’
Specsavers is a co-sponsor of Road Safety Week, an initiative from the charity Brake which ran from 17-23 November, and aims to promote regular eye examinations for drivers and road safety in general.
