Great Scot 2016 is being sponsored by Specsavers
Specsavers are proud to support the Sunday Mail Great Scot Awards 2016

Specsavers opticians across Scotland are encouraging locals to nominate their community hero in the annual Sunday Mail Great Scot Awards.

Specsavers is supporting this year’s prestigious awards, dubbed the People’s Oscars, which honour the incredible achievements of ordinary people across Scotland who are doing extraordinary things.

To raise awareness of the incredible accolade, there will be four Great Scot Roadshows held throughout Scotland which provide an interactive story telling experience to engage and educate children about Great Scots in history during the months of August & September.

The venues have been determined and events will take place at the following locations:

Dates and venues:
Livingston – Saturday 20th August – The Centre
Aberdeen –– Saturday 27th August - Bon Accord Centre
Stirling –– Saturday 3rd September – The Thistle Centre
Glasgow –– Saturday 10th September - Glasgow Forge Centre

Timings:
The performances will run four times per day 10:30, 12:30, 14:00 and 15:30

Proud to be involved
Martin O’Neill, chairperson for Specsavers in Scotland, said: ‘We are very proud to be supporting this year’s Sunday Mail Great Scot Awards, and particularly to be involved in the Community Champion category.

‘The 65 Specsavers stores across Scotland are deeply involved in their local communities – from caring for the sight of people in each town and city, to supporting local causes through fundraising.

‘Sponsoring the Community Champion Award is a natural extension of this, and we can’t wait to see the nominations that will undoubtedly come flooding in from across Scotland. Nominating is really easy – just visit any store and ask for an entry form, which can be filled in and popped into a special post box.

‘We’re thoroughly looking forward to finding some true Great Scots.’

There will be a simple nomination form on the website requesting the nominee and nominators contact details, which category they are placing a nomination in and a maximum 500 word explanation on why the person is being nominated.

The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday 29th October 2016. Closing date for nominations will be Sunday 4th September.
