Specsavers in Stranraer has pledged to keep school children safer by donating high-visibility vests to youngsters at four local primary schools.

Road safety

Boys and girls at Rephad, Park, Glenluce and Belmont primaries received more than 80 vests from Specsavers – and pupils popped into the store to say thanks to staff.

The vests are designed to increase the safety of local children when they are out and about by making it easier for motorists to spot them.

Be safe and be seen

Store director Elaine Hawthorn said: ‘At this time of year, it can be difficult for motorists to see pedestrians and dusk is particularly hazardous for children as they are often walking home from school.

‘Helping to increase the safety of children in Stranraer is very important to us, so we were delighted to present the vests to the youngsters.

‘We’re sure they will help the children be seen and be safe.’
