A member of staff at the Specsavers store in Porthcawl is celebrating after completing her second half marathon.

Completing the Cardiff Half

Mairwen Chess, 60, ran the Cardiff Half Marathon in a time of 2 hours, 41 minutes.

The completion of a 13.1 mile run was huge achievement for Mairwen who is an insulin-dependent diabetic.

She recently joined the new store in Porthcawl after working at Specsavers Bridgend for 16 years.

Mairwen Chess, optical dispenser, said: ‘I really enjoyed running the half marathon; it was a great day out and, if I can do it, it proves that everyone can give it a go – no matter their age or ability!’

‘I am delighted to take on a new challenge at the Porthcawl store. It is a really exciting venture for the team as we deliver our high-quality eyecare services in Porthcawl.’

‘Personally congratulate Mairwen’

Carly Jenkins, store manager of Specsavers in Porthcawl, said: ‘I would like to personally congratulate Mairwen for her achievement. Her determination to complete the half marathon was admirable – she’s certainly a role model to her colleagues.

‘After years of service in Bridgend, we’re thrilled to have Mairwen with us here in Porthcawl. She brings with her a wealth of experience, which we’re sure will be of benefit to the whole team.’
