A clinical assistant from Royton's Specsavers store made her swimming debut in England’s senior team at this year’s Commonwealth Games.

Having previously only swam in junior competitions, Jessica Fullalove proved she has what it takes as she swam competitively against swimmers from all around the world at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

One of the youngest swimmers in the competition and facing strong competition from between 30 and 40 other swimmers in each event, Jessica managed to secure a very respectable 9th in 200m backstroke, 10th in 100m backstroke and 11th in the 50m metre backstroke.

Preparing for Youth Olympics

The Commonwealth Games kicked off a summer of competitions for Jessica as she now prepares for the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China in mid-August.

Jessica said: ‘It was the best three weeks of my life, getting to stay in the athletes village with competitors from all around the world was an incredible experience.

‘I didn’t perform as well as I had hoped but I put that mainly down to nerves as this was my first major competition swimming as a senior. The competition was a massive learning curve but now I’m feeling confident about my next competition at the Youth Olympics in China.

I have never been to China so I am hoping I’ll have a bit of exploring time, it is a real privilege to be able to travel and train with some of England best junior athletes, I can’t wait!’

Jessica and her team mates will be representing Great Britain in the second ever Summer Youth Olympic Games where over 5,000 athletes will compete in 201 events in Nanjing, China.
