Thurrock eyecare experts went back to school to raise awareness of the importance of vision and visibility in road safety.

The team from Specsavers Thurrock in Lakeside Shopping Centre visited Orsett Church of England Primary School to teach pupils about the importance of eye health and distribute 150 high visibility jackets and 150 wristbands.

A word from the store director

Jay Visrolia, store director at Specsavers Thurrock, Lakeside shopping, said: ‘Sight and visibility are key factors in safe road use. We hope that, with their new vests, Orsett pupils can help us set an example to other pedestrians by staying visible and safe while out and about.’

A word from the head teacher

Mrs Godfrey, head teacher at Orsett Church of England Primary School, added: ‘We are absolutely delighted to receive the high vis vests and would like to thank Specsavers for their generosity. Our children often walk to school on rural roads and it was a great sight the next day to see them all walking into the school in the Hi-Vis vests – the children were delighted to be wearing them.’

Specsavers is also renewing its call to drivers to have regular eye tests to ensure their eyes are road safe.
