News just in! The organisers of the Surrey Youth Games - the largest multi-sport competition event in the Surrey - is thrilled to report that 2017 has seen a record number of applicants for this year's Games and without Specsavers support, it may have been a different story.
Supporting the games for the next five years
Specsavers stores across Surrey came together in 2016 to give the Surrey Youth Games the required funding to ensure it remains alive and kicking for the next few years. Critical financial support was necessary to secure its future, so each director from the region pledged their own donation to ensure this fantastic cause carries on inspiring children to enjoy sport today, and in the future.
Record number of girls taking part
The event organisers have also informed Specsavers that 60% of participants this year are female. Traditionally, sports is under-represented by females so an important objective for this year's Games was to engage girls to take part. Everyone is delighted to have ticked this box with aplomb!
Why Specsavers has got involved
Each store shares the same view that it is a real privilege to support the Surrey Youth Games. The event - which takes place middle of June - promotes lots of really important lessons for the younger generation and this is what makes the sponsorship feel so rewarding. The Games encourages social interaction, trying out new sports for the first time, and putting children on the right path towards a healthy lifestyle.
Support on the day
Specsavers will be at the Games that takes place at Surrey Sports Park on 17-18 June. There will be sports for all children aged 7-16 years and it will include events for children with disabilities. Colleagues from various Specsavers stores across Surrey will be there at the weekend too, cheering every little champion on from the side-lines!
