Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse has launched the search for the UK’s proudest specs wearers in Reading – with a £10,000 cash prize up for grabs.

Oti showed off her favourite pair in a fab photo shoot. She said: ‘I’ve been wearing my glasses since I was 10 and I wear them all the time. I can’t live without them.

‘I wouldn’t be Oti without glasses’

‘I’ve got about 20 pairs of glasses and I love changing them to go with different outfits. There are so many styles to choose from, specs are a great way for people to express themselves through fashion. I feel more confident when I put my specs on. I wouldn’t be Oti without them.’

Last year 26-year-old part-time fire-fighter, Alex Douglas from Charvil was named a regional semi-finalist in the 25-34 age category, winning a new pair of specs worth £150, a certificate and a bottle of Specsavers bubbly. He says: ‘I was a quiet teenager and was too embarrassed to tell the teacher that I was struggling to see the whiteboard during my lessons.  When I finally confessed this to my mum, she took me to the opticians and I got my first pair of glasses.  In fact, I had these glasses for nearly ten years:  it’s only been in the last year that I swapped them for adult frames.’

Charlie first started wearing glasses when he was five years old. He continues ‘When I first started wearing glasses, the only options for me were the round NHS-issued ones and some of the kids at school called me four-eyes but I enjoyed wearing glasses, so I stuck with it. Styles have changed and now I feel like they’re part of my character. I belong with glasses.’
