To mark Glaucoma Awareness Week, Jean-Paul Yeung, store director at Specsavers in Margate and Ramsgate, is urging residents to get their eyes checked regularly.
Importance of keeping on top of your eye health
‘The most common risk factors for this type of glaucoma – which is the most common – are a high eye pressure, a family history of glaucoma and your ethnicity.
‘Regardless of the risk, you should bear in mind that glaucoma is often asymptomatic at first and often the only way to detect it is through a routine eye-test.
‘For most people, it's advisable to have an eye test every two years, but it's best to attend earlier if any eye problems occur or if you think you might be at risk of glaucoma or other conditions.’
