Gillian Bleakley, Sophie Miles and Ally Henry are getting ready to take on the Bristol 10k

Three members of staff from Specsavers' Portishead store will be taking part in the Bristol 10k run on Sunday 11 May to raise money for the Portishead’s Macular Society group and the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Student dispensing optician, Sophie Miles (23) and pre-registration opticians Gillian Bleakley (22) and Ally Henry (25) have all been training hard for the run.  Sophie has done a bit of running in the past but this is her first race, while Gillian and Ally have only recently taken it up.

Sophie says: ‘We’ve all been training hard in preparation and are both nervous and excited about taking on the challenge. I’m running for the BHF in memory of family and friends I have lost to heart disease, while Gillian and Ally are supporting the Portishead Macular Society. We’d be very grateful for any sponsorship money that people can spare.’

The Bristol 10k attracts 11,000 runners who take in a route which starts and finishes in Bristol’s historic Harbourside. Runners will go out and back along the Portway, through the stunning Avon Gorge, and twice pass under Brunel’s famous Clifton Suspension Bridge.
