£300 raised for Tŷ Hafan
Generous donations from staff and customers at Specsavers in Porthcawl have helped raise £300 for the Welsh children’s hospice, Tŷ Hafan.
Ten bags of children’s toys, clothes and shoes were collected at the opticians, alongside clothes for men and women, for its neighbouring Tŷ Hafan retail store, also located on John Street. Averaging at £30 per bag, the store and its customers should raise at least £300 for the charity, adding to its ongoing total since it started fundraising for the hospice in September last year.
‘Tŷ Hafan provides vital emotional and practical support to families facing unimaginable challenges and we’re extremely proud to be able to do something to help such a worthwhile cause,’ says Claire Edwards, director at Specsavers in Porthcawl.
Hoping to hit £1000
‘It was a useful exercise for staff and customers to use an alternative method of fundraising for the charity through physical donations and was good to forge stronger bonds with our local Tŷ Hafan shop. We’re set to continue our support of the children’s charity and are hoping to hit our target of raising over £1000 from our store.’
Tŷ Hafan is the current dedicated charity for the Porthcawl opticians, along with 36 other Specsavers stores across mid and south Wales. The charity cares for life-limited children and young people, and provides vital support to their families, both within the hospice and through its community outreach programme. Since 1999, it has supported 689 children across Wales, 263 of which are currently under its care.
