Staff at Specsavers in Porthcawl have welcomed a representative from the Guide Dogs charity into the store to help raise awareness of the thousands of people living with sight loss.

The team invited Sandra, a charity representative from Guide Dogs, and Maybe, a veteran guide dog, to the store to meet staff and customers and talk about how the charity helps those who are visually impaired.

‘A proud supporter’

Claire Edwards, store director of Specsavers in Porthcawl, said: ‘Specsavers has been a proud supporter of Guide Dogs for more than 10 years. Thanks to the generosity of our customers, we have raised a nationwide total of £270,000 in the past four years, which has funded 25 guide dog puppies.

‘We were delighted to welcome Sandra and Maybe to the store! It was a real hit with the customers to have a furry friend with us and it really brought the charities fantastic work to life hearing about how a guide dog can give someone who has with sight loss such independence.’

Lisa Bell, Guide Dogs’ corporate partnerships officer, said: ‘Every hour another person in the UK loses their sight, and the impact is life changing. The Guide Dogs charity is here to make sure that when someone loses their vision they don’t have to lose their freedom as well.’
