Specsavers in Porthcawl has had sweet success in the form of a charity bake sale, raising £25 for Sport Relief.

Bake off

Specsavers staff in Porthcawl got into the competitive spirit with a ‘bake off’ for Sport Relief, asking customers to donate to the charity while they waited to have their sight tests, which raised £25.

Members of the team made a range of treats including cupcakes, cheese cakes and jam tarts on the day.

‘Important work in communities’

Claire Edwards, director at Specsavers in Porthcawl, said: ‘As a local optician, we always aim to support causes that positively affect communities around us, as well as those abroad.

‘In the last two years, Sport Relief has helped more than 16,000 people get support to improve their mental health, and given funding to 23 projects to help those living with dementia; it really is doing such important work in communities across the UK and beyond.

‘I’d like to thank all our staff for all getting involved in this team effort, and of course our customers for their contributions.’

Sport Relief was started by the group behind Comic Relief in 1985, and has helped thousands of people across Britain and beyond. Of the money raised by the public, half is used to support people the UK, and the other half is used to help communities abroad.
