Pontypridd supports Workfit Wales with new staff member
Specsavers in Pontypridd has welcomed a new member of staff to the team after the successful completion of a six week work experience placement through Workfit Wales.
Alex Williams, 20, from Cardiff, joins the Specsavers store on Taff Street as an optical assistant, assisting with administrative duties, booking appointments and filing customer’s records.
‘An ideal candidate’
Mr Williams first joined the store two months ago on a work experience placement organised through WorkFit Wales, which supports young people with Down’s syndrome to gain access to work opportunities.
Workfit Wales felt Mr Williams would make an ideal candidate for the role in Specsavers because of his strong IT Skills, organised approach to work and because he enjoys working with people.
As Mr Williams’s placement came to an end, the Specsavers store director and manager were so impressed with his work and the positive impact he made on the team, he was offered a permanent job.
Mr Williams said: ‘I love working in Specsavers in Pontypridd because everyone is so kind and helpful. And it’s great that I’ve learnt lots of new things since I started working there.’
‘A real pleasure’
Emma Davies, store manager of Specsavers in Pontypridd, said: ‘It’s a real pleasure to welcome Alex permanently to the team because he makes a genuine difference to the team and the day-to-day running of the store.
‘It was important for us to understand what Alex’s interests were when he first joined us so that we could give him tasks that he would enjoy, and ultimately help benefit operations at the store. Going forward, Alex is working with us one day a week, and we look forward to bringing him involved in more and more activities at Specsavers in Pontypridd.’
