Rugby fever has hit Specsavers in Pontypridd as staff welcomed a local rugby star and the Guinness PRO12 trophy to the store.
The acclaimed silverware was hosted by the Taff Street opticians to build on the town’s excitement ahead of the Judgement Day IV tournament (30 April), as part of a tour that saw the trophy travel more than 100 miles to eight locations in Wales’ regions.
Cardiff Blues lock, Macauley Cook, visited the Specsavers store to get up-close with the cup and celebrate its arrival to Wales.
As a sponsor of the Guinness PRO12 match officials and referees, Specsavers is also the official partner of optical and audiology services to the Guinness PRO12, providing expert care for players and officials.
Importance of eye health
Geraint Jones, store director of Specsavers in Pontypridd, said: ‘It’s not every day that we have the opportunity to bring a sporting star and a much sought-after trophy into our store, so to say we were thrilled to host this event is an understatement.
‘Bringing the silverware into the store, through our sponsorship of the Guinness PRO12, shows that we champion the importance of looking after eye and ear health no matter what a person’s profession is.
‘There is a huge amount of rugby heritage in Pontypridd and across Wales and I’m sure that some of our staff and customers hope that one day their team will be lifting this wonderful trophy for real.’
The Guinness PRO12 is an annual rugby union competition involving 12 professional rugby sides from Wales, Ireland, Scotland and Italy, competing to go forward to the European Rugby Champions Cup.
