A Plymouth student has been chosen from thousands of proud glasses wearers as a finalist for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
Cassie Turnbull, aged 17 who is studying hairdressing at City College Plymouth could follow in the footsteps of last year’s Award winner Shane Haron, and take home £10,000 and have the chance to mingle with the stars at the annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
Glasses wearers across the UK and Republic of Ireland have been showing off their specs style by sharing their selfies online throughout the spring and summer. Cassie was invited to visit her local Specsavers store on Armada Way Plymouth to receive her certificate and glasses voucher.
Cassie said: 'I am so surprised but really excited at the same time! It was my Mum’s idea for me to enter the competition and I thought why not! We both really love Oti Mabuse and always watch strictly, so it’s really because of her as well that I entered. I love my glasses and they really are part of my style, I simply can’t live without them!’
A word from the store director
Dr Josie Forte, Plymouth Specsavers store director, said: ‘We are all delighted for Cassie for making it through as a regional finalist in her age group. She’s a wonderful ambassador for wearing glasses and we’ve all got our fingers crossed for her making it through to the finals in London.’
The awards were launched by Strictly Come Dancing star and TV personality Oti Mabuse earlier this year. If she triumphs in her category, Cassie will meet Oti and rub shoulders with many other celebs at the glitzy awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue in October.
There are eight categories including a social media winner voted for by the public. All category winners will win a VIP makeover, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate accolade in specs wearing.
