Time-strapped shoppers who are looking to tie-in their visit to the optician with their weekly shop can celebrate this weekend as the town welcomes its fifth Specsavers store – the first to open inside a Sainsbury’s supermarket.
To mark the launch of the newest Plymouth store located inside Sainsbury’s at Marsh Mills, Specsavers co-founder Dame Mary Perkins will be doing the honours of cutting the ribbon and officially opening it to the public on Saturday 24 September. The celebrations will include musical entertainment and family-friendly activities, such as a visit from the Gruffalo and a balloon sculptor.
‘We hope that this new store will make the lives of our local customers a little easier by offering a convenient solution to keeping their eye health in check,’ comments store director Philip Gray. ‘Customers will be able to rely on us to deliver our usual high-quality service that they have come to expect.’
Specsavers has a long history in Plymouth, which was the fourth city to have a store when the Cornwall Street unit opened in 1984. The new Marsh Mills store has created six jobs, bringing the total number employed by Specsavers in Plymouth to 145.
Business as usual
The store will be open seven days a week and will provide the same optical and hearing services experienced in other stores, including eye examinations and hearing tests, contact lens fitting, and a range of affordable and designer glasses.
