The Barry Specsavers opticians store has been recognised for its high standards of health and safety with a prestigious Santia platinum award.

The store in Holton Road is the first Specsavers in Wales to receive the award and only the 29th store out of all 688 Specsavers stores across the UK.

The accreditation was secured after demonstrating excellence in all areas of health and safety, including its alarms, plug sockets and appliances, as well as equipment used in store such as its state-of-the-art digital retinal photography.

It is the fourth year in a row that the store has been judged as being fully compliant, which has seen it climb the ranks from a bronze award in 2010 to a platinum award in 2013.

Store director, Jamie Pullen, says 'We're delighted to have gained the prestigious platinum health and safety accreditation from our independent assessor, Santia, especially when you consider that we are the first in the Specsavers group in Wales to receive this and one of only a handful in the UK'.

'I'm pleased for the entire team that all their commitment to ensuring we are fully compliant has been underlined with this award, and I'd like to pay particular thanks to our store manager, Kath McNicholas, who has worked extremely hard to ensure that our store excels.'
