Three local opticians have raised more than £5,000 to help train a local guide dog puppy.

The teams at Specsavers in stores in Corby, Kettering and Oakham rallied together to take part in a range of fundraising activities to stump up the cash which will help train guide dog puppy – Bracken.

Fundraising activities culminated with a sponsored cycle ride where a team of five from the stores rode some 280 miles visiting each of the 18 Specsavers stores in the Leicestershire and Northamptonshire region.

A word from the store director

‘Guide Dogs has always been a charity that is close to our hearts and so we set our sights on raising enough funds to help train a local guide dog puppy. Said Mark Turner, store director at Specsavers Corby, Kettering and Oakham. ‘It was great to get to meet Bracken and to see just how our funds have been spent – a big thank you to everyone who supported us with our efforts.’

Guide Dogs provides those living with sight loss with the support they need to be able to lead confident, independent and fulfilling lives.
