Fundraisers held throughout 2019 by Specsavers St Andrews has helped the store make a bumper donation for the charity Guide Dogs.
Thanks to generous donations from locals, the charitable South Street opticians raised an impressive sum of £1,000 through a series of fundraising events including a fun day in store which coincided with Specsavers’ 10th birthday in the town.
The team also raised money for Guide Dogs when attending a Wellness Staff Week at The Old Course, St Andrews Links. The event included positive mental health-related workshops and general healthy lifestyle tips.
Specsavers staff were on-hand to offer advice and raise awareness of good eye health and booked appointments when required. Guide dog, Sky also attended with Specsavers and helped drum up donations for the charity.
Guide Dogs Scotland provides blind or partially sighted people with a guide dog to help improve their quality of life. It costs just under £55,000 to train and support a guide dog partnership.
Money raised for the charity not only helps to train future guide dogs but also allows staff to work closely with the new owners and provide them with all the essential items they will need and financial assistance to cover food and veterinary bills.
Proud supporters of Guide Dogs Scotland
Julia Campbell, store director at Specsavers St Andrews, said: 'We have been proud supporters of Guide Dogs Scotland for a number of years and it was great to once again raise a great sum for the charity throughout 2019.
'It’s all thanks to the dedicated team we have in-store and our lovely customers – we cannot thank them enough. I have no doubt that we will be able to raise even more throughout 2020.'
