Shoppers in Oxford were seen shaking, shimmying and stomping to Latin-American music outside the Westgate Centre on Saturday (4 October) with a well-known TV personality.

Celebrity comes to Oxford

The store welcomed ‘Should’ve Gone to Specsavers’ ad star, Hayley-Jo Whitney, to host a high-energy Zumba workout to raise awareness of eye health. The West End performer is known for her role as a short-sighted fitness teacher accidently performing at a bingo evening for the elderly. 

Lots of people stopped to join in the fun routine, which just like the TV ad, was performed to the soundtrack of catchy pop song ‘Sexy And I Know It’. Staff members also took part and treated passersby to goody bags and free sight test vouchers.

‘It was great to have Hayley-Jo representing Specsavers in Oxford and to see so many people get involved,’ says Abby Jobson, store director. ‘Not only was it fun, but it helped us highlight the importance of regular eye examinations to local people. More often than not, people don’t realise that you should visit an opticians at least every two years, as a sight test should be part of an overall health check.’

Hayley-Jo says: ‘The whole team at Specsavers Oxford were so friendly and made me very welcome. They did a fantastic job of encouraging the public, young and old, to join in while I ‘shook what my mother gave me’. 

‘To look out on a sea of smiling faces, clicking cameras and 'wiggle, wiggle, wiggle's' made the day, for me, one to remember.’
