Ormskirk Team Take Steps to Fight Cancer
The Specsavers team in Ormskirk are taking on 3.9 million steps between them and each of them will walk the distance from London to Manchester to raise money for cancer research this month.
Walk All Over Cancer
Thirteen Specsavers staff are lacing up to take part in this year’s ‘Walk All Over Cancer’ campaign, and will be raising money throughout September for the cause.
The challenge is for each member of staff to walk 10,000 steps every day in September come rain or shine and the team is hoping to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research.
London to Manchester
Retail director Natalie Simm is taking part, and is eager to raise awareness and money for the charity: ‘We are always interested in raising money for a good cause. Cancer Research is close to our hearts as a member of our team, Nicola Forrest, has recently been through treatment.’
Speaking of her own experience, Nicola says ‘After the incredible care I have been given since my diagnosis October 2014, myself and my colleagues saw the September 10,000 steps a day challenge as a great opportunity to give back to cancer research and also to bring our team and community together.'’
'Nicola is a true inspiration and it was her idea to take on this challenge, the rest of us jumped at the chance to get involved’ Natalie adds. ‘We are nearly half way through and, so far, everyone has exceeded their 10,000 steps, often reaching 18,000+. We have set up a Just Giving page and have donation buckets out in store if anyone wishes to contribute. Together we can beat cancer sooner.'
Cancer Research UK is a charity which funds research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the devastating disease.
