Opticians unleash their inner wolf for charity

27 November, 2014

Staff in Hinckley gave into their animal instincts as they took part in the Winter Wolf run in Leicestershire on Sunday 2 November.

Employees Amanda Hardy, Angela Lomas and Karen Lovell from the Specsavers store at 18 Castle Street tackled the gruelling 10k run that covers natural raw terrain, including muddy lakes and open woodland. The hardcore staff was joined by two others on the day to raise money for the Ashanti Development, a project that the store has pledged to raise £9,000 for.

Store director Abhijit Roy, said: ‘It’s great to see staff working so hard to support the Ashanti Development, especially out of working hours by competing in the taxing Wolf Run.’

The trio have already raised £355 through sponsorship and the store has kindly made up the amount to £710.

The Ashanti Development is a charity which is run solely by volunteers. It was set up at the request of Ghanaians living in London who asked their friends and neighbours for help to improve the lives of the people they left behind in their home villages. The charity aims to provide remote villages in the Ashanti Region with water and sanitation, healthcare, education and income generating activities.
