Opticians toughen up for Ironman challenge
Following on from the success of their Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge, which raised more than £5,000, Simon Simonds, store director, and Shaun Crome, Contact Lens Optician, will be tackling the notoriously tough bike course. Team members Georgina Brown and Wendy Winstone will be taking part in the swimming leg of the race, and Charlye Abbott will be joined by Mike Allen, a loyal customer from Specsavers Torquay, to take on the final 13.1mile run to the finish line.
Ironman 70.3 Exmoor is a long-distance triathlon race and will take place at Wimbleball Lake, where it has been hosted since 2006. It is the hardest Ironman 70.3m event in the world. Wimbleball Lake is part of Exmoor National Park, which is one of the most picturesque areas of England.
A word from the store director
Simon said: ‘We’ve been doing all that we can to raise money for Cancer Research in memory of my wife, Sophie, and our late store director, Joy Filon, who both sadly passed away to cancer within months of each other. We’re incredibly grateful for all the support that we have received so far, but we are determined to raise even more.
‘This Ironman race will be our toughest challenge, the hardest 70.3m Ironman event in the world ! But we’ve done our best to prepare and will give it all with got for this wonderful cause.’
