Opticians take on coast-to-coast charity cycle challenge
On Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 May Specsavers in Minehead are teaming up with staff from four other Specsavers stores in the South West to support the fundraising efforts of the Specsavers Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge in aid of Cancer Research UK.
We have pledged to raise £400 and will be taking donations in store in support of the participating cyclists from Specsavers in Torquay and Teignmouth.
The cycle team are riding in memory of Joy Filon, long-standing store director in Torquay who sadly passed away after a bold fight with cancer in 2014, shortly followed by the wife of Torquay-based Simon Simmonds who will be participating in the cycle.
Philippa Hales, store director, said: ‘We’re proud to be supporting the cyclists and Cancer Research UK. The team here at Minehead will be there to send them on their way and we hope that all the money we raise helps to motive them!’
Go the distance
The bike ride will begin at the Specsavers store in Minehead and visit Tiverton, Exeter and Teignmouth, before arriving in Torquay, covering a total distance of 90 miles across the two days.
Anyone wishing to make a donation can visit the store or the team’s Just Giving page.
