Opticians support cycle challenge for Cancer Research
Staff in Minehead helped a team of amateur cyclists from Specsavers in Teignmouth and Torquay raise more than £5,000 for Cancer Research UK.
The Specsavers Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge kicked off at the Minehead store, where staff cheered the cyclists on their way, and finished in Torquay. The cycle team rode through challenging weather conditions in memory of Joy Filon, long-standing store director in Torquay, and Sophie Simmonds, the wife of Torquay-based cyclist Simon, who both sadly passed away to cancer within months of each other.
A word from the director
Philippa Hales, store director, said: ‘The cyclists did a wonderful job - we are very proud of them. It was great to see so many stores coming together for the cause and we are thrilled to have contributed £400 to the fundraising total.’
The cyclists completed the gruelling 90 mile ride over two days, only stopping to rest overnight.
