Opticians support choir’s American dream
A Reading opticians welcomed military wives to store to help them launch their bid to sing at one of the world’s most prestigious concert venues.
Eyecare experts from Specsavers in Reading Broad Street played host to the tuneful sounds of the Military Wives Choirs as they began their fundraising campaign to perform at New York’s historic Carnegie Hall in May.
On the day, the 25-strong ensemble performed a number of choral pieces, including Bring Him Home from Les Miserables, and raised £300 in donations from team members and customers.
The trip would see them take to the stage in the legendary venue, following in the footsteps of music greats, including The Beatles and Billie Holiday.
Don Watts, store director at Specsavers in Reading Broad Street, says: ‘The Military Wives Choirs have gone from strength to strength in just a few short years.
‘They are wonderful ambassadors for the armed forces and the UK. They fully deserve to take to the stage in New York and wish them well in their fundraising campaign.’
