Bono's recent announcement that he is suffering from glaucoma is a timely reminder of the importance of regular eye examinations.

Clinical spokesman

Specsavers' clinical spokesman, Dr Nigel Best, says: ‘Glaucoma is a disease with very few symptoms in the early stages meaning that it is possible for someone suffering from it to be completely unaware. As glaucoma progresses it can cause some patients to become more light sensitive, tinted lenses can help make their eyes more comfortable. As well as correcting problems with eyesight, optometrists can also check the health of your eyes and refer you for further checks with your doctor if necessary.’
