Staff from the Specsavers stores in Bradford Darley Street, Girlington, Otley and Ilkley will be donning their walking boots at the weekend to tackle a 20-mile walking relay between the four stores, in aid of Cardiac Risk in the Young.
Some 20 colleagues from across the four stores will take part in various legs of the walk, which will begin in Ilkley and finish in Girlington on Sunday 28 September.
Staff are urging locals to dig deep to support this worthy cause and will be collecting donations from Monday 22 up until the day.
Looking forward to the challenge
Pete Rooke, store director at Bradford Darley Street Specsavers commented: ‘We are a friendly cluster of stores, which is why we’ve chosen the route from Ilkley to Otley, through to Bradford Darley Street and finishing in Girlington. All of the staff from across the four stores are looking forward to the challenge and we’re hoping to raise a substantial amount of money for Cardiac Risk in the Young.’
Alison Cox MBE, Chief Executive and Founder of CRY added: “For the past 20 years, CRY has been enormously grateful for the generosity of the public and local businesses which has allowed us to fund our range of specialist services, from screening and research to our network of bereavement support.
“Since we launched in 1995, the charity has gone from strength to strength - indeed, our pioneering cardiac screening programme is now testing more than 15,000 young people every year across the UK.
“On behalf of all of us at CRY, I would like to say a huge “thank you” to the teams from these four branches of Specsavers for choosing us as a beneficiary for this event and for helping to raise further awareness of CRY and our work.”
