East Kilbride marks Road Safety Week
To mark National Road Safety Week (23 - 29 November), the East Kilbride opticians is helping to keep local children safe by donating high-visibility vests to 2nd Hamilton Brownies group.
Specsavers road safety initiative
The group of 19 children aged between 7 and 10 years old, received the vests as part of an initiative set up by Specsavers to increase the visibility of local children, making it easier for motorists to spot them.
Store director at Specsavers in East Kilbride, Shirley-Ann Kennedy, said: ‘At this time of year, with the dark mornings and nights, combined with the winter weather, it can be difficult for motorists to see pedestrians.
‘With this in mind we decided that, as part of Road Safety Week, we wanted to help increase the safety of children in the area and donated the high-visibility vests to 2nd Hamilton Brownies after the group leader got in touch.’
Clearly visible and easy to spot
Gillian Scott, 2nd Hamilton Brownies group leader, said: ‘I’m a regular customer at Specsavers in East Kilbride and decided to ask the store about its high-visibility vest scheme as I thought they would come in handy for our group.
‘The vests will ensure our Brownies are clearly visible at all times when they’re out and about on trips. It’s a great initiative from Specsavers that will get youngsters thinking about the importance of road safety.’
