Specsavers Mansfield ask 'Do you have the specs factor?'

Emma Bunton launches the annual search for the Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2015

The team at Specsavers in Mansfield has teamed up with former Spice Girl and Heart Radio DJ Emma Bunton along with anti-bullying charity Kidscape to launch this year’s search for the Wannabe Spectacle Wearers of the Year.

Dream holiday for the winner
The overall winner of the competition will be presented with £10,000 in cash and a dream stay at the Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas. The prize will be presented later this year at a star-studded event in central London.

A great way to accessorise
Emma is the face of this year’s Specsavers’ Love Glasses campaign and the associated Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition, now in its 20th year. Emma said: ‘I’ve been wearing glasses for years, even before I needed a prescription. I wore them without lenses because I think they’re a great way to accessorise!

Glasses should be fun. I love the variety, from dark frames to tortoiseshell and two-tone. I also like being a bit out there and wearing white or vintage glasses. I think the good thing about the range available now is that you can have so much fun with them.’

A word from the store director
Imogen Hoyle, store director at Specsavers in Mansfield, said: ‘We want to celebrate the specs-wearing superstars in Mansfield. The Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards offer the perfect opportunity for men and women of any age to show how fabulous they look in glasses and to wear their specs with pride.’

All for a good cause
For every eligible entry Specsavers will donate £1 to Kidscape, which is celebrating 30 years of helping vulnerable children in 2015. The money raised will help to support them in providing training, support and advice for children, parents, schools and those who may be affected by cases of bullying and abuse in the UK.

Emma continued: ‘It’s so important to make sure there’s lots of support for children who get bullied. It’s an awful thing to go through and heart-breaking for kids and parents. As a mother I’m proud to be part of this campaign and help spread the word.’

There are five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and over 60s plus a Facebook favourite voted for by the public. A winner from each category will win a VIP makeover and will mingle with celebrities at an awards ceremony in London on 6 October.
