Bolton team help local children stay safe and seen with donation
To mark 2015 Road Safety Week, Bolton Specsavers helped to ensure children are ‘safe and seen’ on the roads by donating high visibility vests to a local primary school.
As part of an initiative by Specsavers and charity partner Brake to increase the safety of local youngsters, children at St Peter's Smithills Dean CE Primary School have been presented with the vests by the Bolton Specsavers team.
An excellent way to stay safe
St Peter's Smithills Dean head teacher Christine Lancashire said: ‘These fantastic vests are an excellent tool to keep children safe, so we’re very grateful to Specsavers Bolton for working in partnership with us, and for their kind donation.
‘With the onset of dark conditions at times, and especially when children are visiting the local area on foot, it can be difficult for motorists to see pedestrians and winter is a particularly hazardous time.
‘The school uses this type of jacket every time we take the children out and will be really useful.’
Children already safety savvy
Bolton Specsavers manager Robert Ogg added: ‘We’re delighted to be able to donate these vests and we were very impressed to find that the children were already well-versed on their road safety.
‘Now that the clocks have gone back, we’re determined to ensure local children are ‘seen and safe’ on dark nights. We hope these bright easily seen vests will help spread the message of the importance of protecting kids, families and everyone else on roads this autumn and winter.
‘As part of this initiative, we are also hoping to raise awareness of free glasses and eye tests that are available to under 16-year-olds. It is important to make sure that children have regular eye tests as an undetected problem could lead to something more severe in the long term.’
Brake is a national road safety charity which exists to prevent deaths and injuries which happen on roads on a daily basis, through campaigns and other funding. The charity also promotes safe and sustainable road use and effective road safety policies.
