Opticians from East England got on their bikes to help raise £265 for Cancer Research UK last month.

Staff from Specsavers stores across the region took part in a sponsored cycle ride around Rutland Water on Sunday 29 April, completing a 23-mile cross country ride around the edge of the reservoir.

Money raised from their efforts will be donated directly to Cancer Research UK, the national charity dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

The cyclists who took part in the challenge are – Ellie-May Jones, Naeem Patel, Paul Croft and Mark Gurry (Specsavers Peterborough), Radhika Patel (Specsavers Serpentine Green) and Steve Price (Specsavers regional manager).

Mark Gurry, store manager at Specsavers Peterborough, says: ‘The team had a lot of fun with the cycle ride and, while it was tough going, it was worth it for the money we have been able to raise for such a worthy cause as Cancer Research UK. We also have a number of additional fundraising events coming up in the near future, so watch this space for more news.’
