Staff at Specsavers in West Bromwich and Bearwood are appealing to the local community to join their efforts to support the local foodbank.

The stores have become a collection point for the foodbank and are looking for donations of in-date, non-perishable foods.  Donated items are then given to local people in need.

‘This is such a simple but effective initiative,’ said Michelle Powell, store director at Specsavers West Bromwich and Bearwood. ‘We all have a bag of pasta or tin of soup in our cupboards that we could go without, so hopefully we can really make a difference to those who are less fortunate than ourselves.’

The West Bromwich foodbank has been running since December 2007 and during that time has supported more than 15,000 people who were in crisis and could not afford to feed themselves or their families.

In-date, non-perishable items should be dropped off at either of the Specsavers stores.
