In celebration of Bodmin Riding and Heritage Day, Saturday 2 July, staff at the store are hosting local author Jani Tully Chaplin, who will be signing copies of her latest children’s story, The Holiday – A Chough’s Tale, between 10am and 4pm.
The new book set in Cornwall’s tin mining era has been written and illustrated by Jani Tully Chaplin, a talented illustrator and story teller, renowned for her books The Manor House Stories. The team are inviting parents to come along to the store with their children to meet the author and purchase a signed copy of the book.
To mark the Bodmin Riding and Heritage Day the team has also planned plenty of child-friendly entertainment, including a Victorian sweets cart for all to enjoy, face painting and an appearance from the Gruffalo to hand out goody bags to the children. There will also be a colouring competition with two chocolate hampers to be snapped up by the winners.
Jo McLean, store director, said: ‘We are thrilled to be hosting Jani Tully Chaplin on this historic day. It’s a great opportunity for the children to learn about the local history of the tin mining era while learning to read and having fun.’ ‘
Needless to say the link between reading and eye sight is integral and another great reason for Specsavers in Bodmin to support Jani’s latest story book.’
