A Greenock opticians has sponsored one of its directors £500 as she gets ready to take on this year’s Kiltwalk.

Greenock’s own Claire Kincaid is taking on the 15-mile Big Stroll from Clydebank to Moss O Balloch Park on Sunday 28 April in aid of Duchenne UK.

The charity aims to fund and accelerate treatments and a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a devastating disease that affects the muscles. Claire, who is one of three directors at the store in Oakmall Shopping Centre, feels passionately about the special cause.

Charity champion

Claire said: ‘Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy has touched the lives of those closest to me and I am taking on this challenge to help this fantastic charity realise its ambition of eradicating the disease within 10 years.

‘I’m grateful to my colleagues for their generous sponsorship, which has set me on course to my fundraising target, and I’m looking forward to donning my kilt and hitting the trail later this week.’

Lesley Brown, store director at Specsavers in Greenock, added: ‘We’re very proud of Claire for taking on this challenge. She is one of our longest serving colleagues and an ever-popular member of our team. The decision to throw our support behind her was unanimous and we’ll be cheering her on as she gets ready for her Kiltwalk.’
