Optician conquers coast-to-coast cycle challenge for Cancer Research
Store director, Michael Todd, has successfully cycled from coast to coast, raising more than £5,000 in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Michael was joined by Simon Simmonds and Sean Crome from Specsavers in Torquay to complete the Specsavers Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge in support of Cancer Research UK.
Up for a challenge
The cycle team rode through challenging weather conditions from Minehead to Torquay in memory of Joy Filon, long-standing store director in Torquay, who sadly passed away after a bold fight with cancer in 2014 and Simon’s wife who also passed away just seven months later.
Michael said: ‘It was fantastic to be part of the cycle ride. We received so much encouragement and support from the other stores along the way, which far outweighed the aches and pains that followed.’
The cyclists completed the gruelling 90 mile ride over two days, only stopping to rest overnight. Staff from Teignmouth, Torquay, Minehead and Tiverton helped to raise funds for the challenge and cheered the cyclists on as they passed each store.
