Staff at Specsavers Abingdon have smashed their fundraising target and raised over £1,200 for Kamran’s Ward.
The team braved an abseil down The John Radcliffe Hospital on Saturday 14 September 2019 to raise money for the cause. With a goal of £200 set on their Just Giving page, the team went above and beyond their target, which was boosted by kind donations from customers.
Some family members even took part, while others simply spectated as their loved ones braved the descent down the 100-foot building, which took approximately 30 minutes. The team could be spotted in their t-shirts, which stated that they were proudly supporting the Great Big Hospital Abseil.
A word from the store director
‘The team and I absolutely loved it,’ said store director, Andrew Threlfall. ‘Kamran’s Ward works so hard to provide care and support for children and young people who are facing cancer, it’s great to be able to raise such a great sum of money for them. We’ve still got donations coming in too!’
As Kamran’s Ward is the home of Paediatric Oncology and Haematology, it is one of the few treatment centres in the UK for children and young people suffering from a cancer diagnosis. The doctors and nurses working on Kamran’s Ward also aim to provide necessary help and support for parents with children who are receiving treatment on the ward. Donations and charity events help make sure that specialist hospital wards such as Kamran’s Ward can keep providing treatment for children with cancer.
