Specsavers in Hertfordshire give advice on how to protect against harmful UV rays

At this time of year many of us start to dream of warmer climes and sunny days on the beach. But if you are planning to head of in search of some summer sun it’s important to ensure you and your family’s eyesight is properly protected from UV rays. The teams at Specsavers stores in Hertfordshire are on-hand to offer advice.

Importance of UV protection

Opticians across Hertfordshire are endeavouring to raise awareness of the danger UV rays can pose to not only our skin, but our eyes too.

The teams across Hertfordshire are calling on families to ensure your eyes are properly protected from sun damage, and are urging anyone who is heading off on holiday to check their sunglasses to make sure they are fully protected against UV rays.

Top tips

•    Sunglasses should be marked UV 400 to provide sufficient protection from sun damage
•    The larger the lens, the more protection they’ll give your eyes as there is less chance that light will filter in through the sides
•    If you are taking prescription sunglasses on holiday, take your optician's phone number with you so that if they break, your prescription can be sent to an optician near you so that you can get new ones

Staff at your local store can offer help and advice if you are unsure as to the level of protection you need.
