Specsavers in Nuneaton is encouraging local residents to recycle their old specs and unused hearing aids as part of Green Office Week (8-13 May).

International charities

Visitors can show their support for two international charities, Vision Aid Overseas and Sound Seekers. Donations will be recycled or reused to fund and support projects in African countries including Sierra Leone, Zambia and Ethiopia.

‘We’d like to encourage our customers to think green and recycle both their old specs and unused hearing aids,’ says store director, Bhavna Hughes. ‘Not only do Vision Aid Overseas and Sound Seekers give these donations a new life, but both charities provide an essential service to people in need.’

Based in the UK, Vision Aid Overseas aims to help those living in poverty who have little or no access to eyecare, while Sound Seekers helps thousands of deaf or hearing impaired people to learn and earn in the developing world.

Small changes

‘Green Office Week is the perfect opportunity to dive into draws and find your old specs and hearing aids which can be put to a much better use,’ Bhavna added.

‘We want to encourage our local community to be aware of the small changes they can make during the working week to positively impact the environment – and supporting some fantastic causes at the same time is an added benefit!’
