Specsavers Nottingham have been recognised for their high performance from stores across the UK at the Specsavers Awards for Excellence 2016.

Winners of the award for Excellence in Contact Lenses and the Excellence in Healthcall 

The team at Specsavers in Wheeler Gate scooped the award for Excellence in Contact Lenses as well as the Excellence in Healthcall for their home visiting service, while their sister store in Hucknall won for Excellence in Customer Service and West Bridgford was a finalist in two categories: Excellence in Contact Lenses award and Excellence in Overall Performance award.

‘We are so delighted with how the Nottinghamshire stores performed!’ enthused Nottingham store director Simon Dunn. ‘There was massive competition this year across the categories, and to have been recognised for our performance across several of these is a great honour.’

The teams attended the awards held at the Birmingham ICC this month. Selected from stores across the UK and Ireland, the Nottingham stores were commended for their commitment and drive to go above and beyond for their customers.

Doing something different

Judge Paul Robinson, Head of Contact Lenses, said of the Wheeler Gate store: ‘I chose to give the awards based on who went beyond, thought differently and created something special for their customers in their store. I considered the creativity stores had done to move their contact lens journey on over the last two years, opportunities they had taken to either challenge the market norm or do something different, without losing focus on the basics.

‘That is why I settled on Nottingham; they had gone beyond what a great business on paper does and sought opportunities to do more. Their thinking will ultimately benefit the overall partnership.’

Nottingham Specsavers’ Healthcall service, offering a visitation provision for customers that are unable to attend their sight test in store due to either physical or mental disability, was also recognised at the awards for the difference it has made to vulnerable patients.

‘Lisa, Anish and the team have truly demonstrated excellence in Healthcall,’ said judge Maurice Livesey, Director of Operations for Specsavers Healthcall. ‘They have been forging strong links with store and Hearcare partners, local GPs and dementia societies to raise awareness of such an essential service, ensuring vulnerable housebound customers receive access to essential health checks.

The drive and commitment to delivering great service over the last 12 months has been tremendous and they have truly been able to change people’s lives by giving them access to a great Specsavers experience in their own homes.’

West Bridgford shortlisted for two categories

The Specsavers team from West Bridgford were also recognised through their nominations for Excellence in Contact Lenses and Excellence in Overall Performance.

‘We are absolutely delighted to be shortlisted in these two categories. It reflects the aims at the heart of our store, to strive for excellence in every area of our service,’ commented West Bridgford store director Stephen Rogers.

‘Our colleagues in the contact lens team are particularly pleased with this award nomination, as the department has only been open for 18 months. We are thrilled for the Nottingham Wheeler Gate store for their well-deserved win.’

Actor Stephen Mangan hosted the evening, attended by almost 1,000 guests. There was also a performance from ‘alternative magician’ Sean Heydon, who roped Specsavers founders Doug and Mary Perkins into a trick on stage.
